....... and help us decide what things Mitcheldean Brownies should do to celebrate!
You might be asking why we are starting the celebartions on 5th September this year when Guiding started 1910?
In 1909, Lord Baden-Powell announced that he would be in Crystal Palace Park on Saturday 4 September. Any Scout who wished to join him was invited to do so. Girls arrived and told him they were Girl Scouts which gave him the idea to ask his sister Agnes Baden Powell to help him start up the organisation we now know as Girl Guiding.

Join in the Centenary Celebrations
On our last meeting of the Summer term was a 'COOL BUFFET' in the Brownie hut because the weather was horrendous. We had COOL FOOD, and COOL DRINKS and COOL GAMES. We also enrolled Jasmine and Shannon and said a COOL GOODBYE to Holly and Jess.

Earlier in the year we joined in with the Gloucestershire County organised event for Brownies, here in the Forest of Dean. A big "Thank You" to Ali M and Jess B for all your hard work.

We also held a 1950s evening, the girls dressed up in style, we played and danced to '50s music, did a '50s picture quiz and ate hotdogs and milkshakes.
Last week we started making the pages for our Wacky 100, Jokes book and each girl performed one of her jokes to the rest of the group. That was fun girls, wasn't it? Sorry parents, we ran quite a bit late.
27th February 2010 Division Event: Thinking Day celebrations for Forest North Division took place at Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean. Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Sections joined in with craft activities from around the world - Australia, America, Brazil, Ireland to name but a few of the countries represented. Then after lunch the Djabot Drummers entertained us and everyone got to join in with the BEAT. certainly showing 'One World One Beat' at its most enthusiastic.
24th April 2010 County Event: Brownie Revels - Golden & Gorgeous, at Beechenhurst in the Forest of Dean. Nearly six hundren Brownies from all over Gloucestershire converged on Beechenhurst on a very sunny and very hot Saturday morning. The day was Golden and they were Gorgeous and sparkly. Ali M had masterminded a wealth of activities for us. Paracute games, a belly dancer, skittles, rounders and craft activities such as a promise ribbon, mask making and egg painting. Then after lunch we embarked on a Teddy Bear trail set up by our own Forest North commissioners (and I suspect a few Young Leaders) and we made our way along the footpath searching for Teddies to match those on our bingo-type cards. Our highest point (definitely an "Up High" moment) was the sculpture known as "The Giant's Chair" where we took a picture of us all together and the view from there. We could see a snake-like trail of the Brownies ahead of us winding back down the path. Then ot was time for the heats of the egg and spoon race. Rebekah S won the Forest North heat but unfortunately dropped her egg during the final. After this we headed for some shade and sang some old favourite camp-fire songs until it was time to head for home.
'Brownies got Talent'
Our show last term was a great success. We were very proud of the girls as they had really done it all themselves and Alicia and Rebekah as compares did a great job too. Well Done! all of you.

We raised £24.52 from our jars of 100 pennies. Last term the girls suggested six different charities and after two rounds of voting, The Meningitis Trust came out as clear leader. So we will be sending a cheque for £25 off to them soon.
We have enjoyed a fabulous year in Guiding and the final Centenary Celebration, Vision, has finished. That was an evening to remember with stilt walkers, fire eaters, fireworks and nearly 5,000 guiding members renewing their promises and some making them for the first time.

Trisha and some of the Senior Section enjoyed a great w/e with Dursley Distict sharing their Party 100. She's also had a fabulous time and made loads of new guiding friends by helping in the Souvenir shop at FUSION in Leeds on 4th August. Hope the brownies liked the Fusion Bear centenary gift. Jess, our Young Leader went to County Camp in August and she shared stories and photos with us too.

In May the Forest North Division event was here in the Forest of Dean, when Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Seniors and their leaders 'Took Over' the Forest of Dean Steam Railway. A big "Thank You" to Helen M, Jane H and Linda for all your hard work. Thanks also to Trefoil helpers Margaret and Doris. It was a very hot day and we were very grateful for the gazebos for shade and the ice cold juice on our return from the Steam Train ride.
